According to legend, Dim Sum originated in the ancient emperor’s city of Xian, a thousand years ago.
The monarch, familiar with all the then dishes known at the time, asked his cook to create something completely new. The cook then served him dumplings, delicate rolls and tiny balls which were filled with finely chopped vegetables, meat or fish, steamed in bamboo baskets or deep-fried, accompanied by several deliciously spiced sauces.
The monarch is said to have felt “bliss of the heart”, - “Dim Sum” -, from the pleasure of tasting these delicacies.
